After news came of a new Starship Troopers movie, we posted a new Twitter poll asking what people thought of the first film from 1997. Remember to cast your vote before it closes tomorrow night. While you’re at it, make sure you’re following @DarkFuturesFic and @Phase2Magazine.
A trailer has just been released for a new Starship Troopers movie, continuing the franchise which began with the movie titled simply Starship Troopers in 1997. Since then, there have been three more movies released in the franchise (two live action like the original and one animated) and an animated series.
The new movie is titled Traitor of Mars and will see Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer return as the voices of the characters they played in the first film, Johnny Rico and Dizzy Flores. Also returning for this sequel is Ed Neumeier, who wrote the first film (based, though some would say loosely, on Robert Heinlein’s 1959 novel.)
Release of a film continuing this franchise comes as a surprise to many as there have been rumors of a reboot in the works for some time now.
Traitor of Mars will be in theaters in the US for one night only on August 21st. Check local listings for more details as the date approaches. There is no information yet about home video release.
Will you be seeing this movie in the theater or waiting for later release? What did you think of the other Starship Troopers movies? Let us know in the comments or on social media.
